Before writing this blog post, I did some research on monthly goals. What I found was that it’s easiest to come up with meaningful goals when you first identify categories in which you’d like to improve. So I picked seven categories in which I want to focus on in June. First, I’ll explain each category, and then I’ll give you some more specific information on how I’m going to incorporate them into my June goals.
The seven categories are:
Finish a Book
Reading a book a month (or more) is such a great way to relax and spend some down time. Not to mention, depending on what you’re reading, it can be a great way to discover new things, learn and grow! I made this a goal a while back but never followed through – so here is my recommitment.
Personal
Identify a goal that is personal to you this month. Is there a lifestyle change you’ve been wanting to make? Is there something on your ‘want’ list that you’re hoping to be able to afford? Think of something that will give you a feeling of accomplishment and shoot to achieve it before the month is up!
Work
Whether you’re a stay-at-home mom, work from home, head to the office or find yourself in a classroom each day, chances are there’s something you want to work on. Make a goal for this month and plan your course of action to achieve it.
Something New
Love this category. This month I interpreted this as ‘start something new’, but you could make it into so many different things: go somewhere new, buy something new, try something new, etc.!
Cut Back On
I think it’s such a great exercise to have something you make it a goal to cut back on each month. Drink too much caffeine? Spend too much money? Indulge in something too often? Watch hours of Netflix every single night? Whatever it is, choose something and cut back on it!
Family Outing
I really love this category. I think a monthly outing where it’s just the three of us intentionally spending time together is going to be such a fun thing to look forward to. It doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated – maybe just a morning at the pool or afternoon picnic at the park. The point is to have some quality time and make memories together.
Self-Care
The dictionary defines self-care as: the practice of taking action to preserve or improve one’s own health. But I think ‘one’s own health’ here can mean so many different things. From mindset and outlook to physicality to inner being and so much more. The point of this category is to do something for you.
My goals for the month of June.
Alright, now that we’ve got the explanations out of the way, here are my specific goals for this month.
Finish a Book: Road Back to You
I bought this book at the beginning of the year, just before all of our moving craziness began and never got a chance to pick it up. I found it the other day as I was unpacking one of our last boxes and am finally going to start it this month. The key here though is to finish it – as I have a bit of a reputation for reading verrryyy slowly.. sometimes not finishing a book at all (I tend to read a page or 2 and fall asleep) LOL. But this month I’m resolve to start and finish! Have you read it? What’s your enneagram number?
Personal: Make it to the gym at least 3x per week
If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you’ve seen that our family recently started going back to the gym and it has been so wonderful for all of us! Last week I went every single day, but my goal for this month is to make the gym just a part of our weekly routine. For now, I’m aiming to make it there at least three times a week. This can be for classes in the morning, afternoon or to simply go run on the treadmill or swim laps. Point is to make health and fitness a priority from now on!
Work: Blog at least 3x per week all month
Last week I was on a roll with putting out content and I truly loved getting so much accomplished for this blog of mine. I’m not sure if I’ll ever be a consistent 5x a week blogger, but for now my goal is to put out fresh content at least 3x per week. The great thing about our gym actually is that it has childcare, so if I’m feeling like I’m needing more time to work, my plan is to make it to the gym around 5:30am before Fischer wakes up and then come back later in the afternoon to have him play with the kids while I work in the gym’s coffee shop for an hour. Genius right?!
Something New: Establish 5am wakeup
I plan to talk more about this in a post later this week, but my ‘something new’ goal is to establish a new wakeup time of 5am. Right now, my body will wake itself up naturally around 6am, but I want that to happen an hour earlier by the end of the month!
Cut Back On: Eating out
This month I want us as a family to cut back on eating out. We’ve actually done very well doing this since I started meal planning/prepping again, but we still eat a meal out (or pickup fast food) 2-3 times a week. It just eats up so much money by the end of the month – not to mention the food is usually far from healthy.
Family Outing: Go to a Braves Game
Garrett and I have been teaching Fischer the Seminole warchant and chop and he’s started to do it all by himself (SCORE)! Yesterday, he did it while we were driving home from the gym and I started to long for football season where he could hear and see people doing it in real life. Then, I remembered we live in Atlanta and that the Braves do the chop too! So we decided this month we’re going to try to take him to a game. Even if he doesn’t last the whole team (he definitely won’t) tickets are affordable and it will be so much fun to introduce him to his first sports event.
Self-Care:
When I saw this as a category while conducting my research for this post, I knew I had to add it to my list of goals. I love caring for my home and family, but I’m not always good at taking time for myself. Which, as a textbook extroverted introvert, really takes its toll. So this month I’m making it a goal to do something for me once a week. Just something to help me relax and recharge. I’ll be calling it #selfcaresundays if you want to follow along over the next few weeks! I’m going to shoot for taking 30-45 minutes on Sunday nights to maybe take a soak in the bath, go for an evening walk while listening to a podcast or simply sit somewhere comfy and do my nails. Whatever I’m feeling that week, I’m looking forward to a little QT with me, myself and I.
Well, there you have it! My seven goals for the month of June. What are some goals you’re setting for yourself this month?!
