2019 gift guides: the traveler + homebody.

GIFT GUIDES + Holidays

This post may contain affiliate links.

If you have someone in your life who travels fairly often – or, on the opposite side of the spectrum, loves to stay cozied up at home – this holiday gift guide is for you! My husband travels a handful of times a year for work and I’ve personally purchased some of the things (or very similar ones) in the Traveler Gift Guide for him in years prior. On the other hand, I’d consider myself more of a homebody (although I do love to travel! I’m just definitely in a season of homebody-ness thanks to that SAHM life) – but I’d personally love to receive any of the Homeboy Guide items! I’ve also included some manlier versions of the girly items in case you’re shopping for a male homebody in your life (i.e., slippers, pajamas and throw blanket)!

2019 Holiday Gift Guides: The Traveler + Homebody | Amanda Fontenot Blog

Let’s start with the traveler gift guide.

Gift Ideas for the Traveler.

  1. Travel Pillow: I came across this travel pillow and thought it was so cute! If you’re looking for a manlier version, try this one – it comes with earplugs and eyepatch! The hubs won’t go on a plane without his travel pillow, so I know for sure this would be a great gift for your traveler!
  2. Travel Jewelry Case: This is such a beautiful jewelry case for traveling! I know from experience that traveling with jewelry can get tricky, messy and frustrating. I actually avoid it if possible just because I seem to always lose things or the get tangled, etc. I love that this case keeps everything together in one beautiful, personalized place.
  3. Packing Cubes: Trust me when I say packing cubes make traveling SO MUCH EASIER. Especially if there’s a mom in your life who is packing for multiple people in one suit case or if you have someone who just has trouble fitting things or keeping them all together! These cubes are highly rated and come in lots of colors.
  4. Monogrammed Carry-On: I got G a personalized carry-on one year (not this one, but a similar one from the same website) and he loved it! I think this one is so cute and is available in several colors!
  5. Travel Power Strip: This portable power supply (and/or this portable charger) would make for a GREAT gift! Whether they’re sitting on a plane, train, bus or in the car for a long trip – this will help to keep them charged and connected.
  6. Electronic Roll Up Case: This would actually make a great gift accompanied with one or both of the items in #5. Most of us have multiple electronic cords and chargers to bring with us when we travel so it would be nice to have someplace to store them all safely and neatly!
  7. Clip-On Reading Light: Who doesn’t find themselves in need of a portable light during long plane rides or nighttime drives? This helps to reduce the intrusion upon those around them when they want to read, write, etc. in a dark atmosphere.
  8. Hanging Toiletry Bag: If you’re looking for a feminine toiletry bag, this one comes in other colors – but I have this one and love it! Being able to hang your toiletries makes a BIG difference – especially in cramped hotel bathrooms or guest baths that tend to be on the smaller side. They can hang these on the towel rack or behind the door and free up much needed counter space!
  9. Passport and Luggage Tag Set: All three of us have different passport holders and I love how they make each of our passports easy to find and tell apart without having to open them up. I love this set because it also comes with a luggage tag which, in today’s world where a lot of luggage looks alike, helps to make their life easier and their bags cuter!

What do you think? Any of these items going on your lists for your traveler – or yourself?!

Gift Ideas for the Homebody.

I think all of us have a little cozy homebody in us. Who doesn’t love an evening at home with a cozy throw blanket and comfy pair of pajamas – with maybe even a candle burning next to you?! I thought so. Let’s talk about this list.

  1. Basketweave Throw: As I said, you can’t go wrong with gifting a cozy throw blanket. Everyone needs one. For their couch, their desk chair, bed, etc.! This one comes in more colors and just looks so soft and inviting.
  2. Home Body by Joana Gaines: Where my JoJo fans at?! I know this may be taking the whole ‘homebody’ theme very literally, but seriously, who doesn’t love a book full of pretty inspirational photos and tips for making their spaces more comfortable? Would make for a great coffee table or bedside table book/decoration!
  3. Fire HD 8 Tablet: This tablet is the perfect gift. It’s fairly affordable and can be used for anything from reading books to listening to music, watching videos, scrolling Instagram and more! It’s one of the perfect ingredients for a cozy night in!
  4. Mens Pajama Set: If there’s a guy in your life who’s in need of some cozy PJ’s – this is a great option! I love that it comes with a Henley top – I feel like he could wear it as an actual shirt with jeans or something if he wanted to! Always looking to make the most out of my money 😉
  5. Wood Bathtub Tray: I know for a fact one of the homebodys in my life (my mom) would LOVE this bath tray. There’s a place for EVERYTHING on it! Wine glass, toiletries, e-reader, a snack, your phone, etc.! And I love the beautiful crafted wood. Such a beautiful gift option.
  6. Women’s Pajama Set: I tried the shorts version of these pajamas on in my latest Trunk Club shipment and they’re SO soft and comfortable! These pajamas paired with a candle or throw or pair of slippers would be the perfect gift!
  7. Men’s Slippers: These slippers are a great affordable dupe to the Ugg ones. They’d be perfect paired with pajamas or his normal outfit for just hanging around the house. To be honest, G has a pair like this and he wears them to run quick errands too!
  8. Cozy Faux Fur Slippers: These are a more feminine option and they match the robe you’ll find below! This time of year is perfect for a set of slippers paired with a robe or PJ’s. It’s something they’ll wear all season long and they’ll bring them back out next year too!
  9. Winc: Winc is for the wine lover in your life! Who doesn’t love a night in at home with a nice glass of wine and a good book? Now, that’s the perfect homebody gift. Winc curates a collection of wines specific to the person’s taste and preferences and then ships them to your door! Check out their website for more details and click Gifts in the menu bar!
  10. Let’s Stay Home Mug: I love receiving mugs as gifts. Pair this with a bag of their favorite coffee (or box of tea), a candle and/or a throw and you’ve got yourself an outstanding gift for your homebody!
  11. Neck Heat Wrap with Massage: I saw someone using this the other day and thought it would be perfect for this list! It’s different from the normal massagers you see given as gifts all the time and at a great price!
  12. Barefoot Dreams Leopard Print Throw: This is the cutest throw blanket and anything Barefoot Dreams is going to be one of the SOFTEST, coziest things you’ve ever felt – trust me.
  13. Faux Fur Robe: This is the perfect winter robe. I’m actually in the market for a new one to put on my own Christmas list this year and this is the one I’ll be asking for! Whether they need something to wrap up in while they get ready or just to keep them warm around the house, this is a great affordable option!
  14. Volcano Candle: The Volcano candle is by far the best smelling candle I’ve come across. It’s not seasonal – meaning it’s great for all year-round and I promise they’ll fall in love with the scent (if they haven’t already). I gave these to the ladies in my family one year and they were a raging success.

Okay, my friends, that’s a wrap! I’d love to hear if you found this gifting guide useful or if you have any other suggestions for future gift guides. Hope you’re all having a wonderful week!

I mean.. I get it, to be honest.. I can only ho I mean..

I get it, to be honest..

I can only hope that people might look at my profile before/after commenting and realize this ain’t my first rodeo🤠

For the first project: we needed more storage. Period.

And the second: the paint was abnormally thick and wasn’t splattering. Believe me I DID test/check. I covered and protected the things I knew I couldn’t easily wipe clean (rug/play couch/etc) - it all turned out FINE)🫶🏼

I also feel like people saw the Timelapse’s and assumed I was going super fast and just splattering paint everywhere🤣 In reality I was going super slow!!!🤪

Little disclaimer - I’ve only ever used traditional wallpaper, but have yet to have any issues.. especially with these tips!👇🏼

3 Tips for wallpaper success:

1️⃣. Start in the most inconspicuous corner of the room. Your wallpaper has to end somewhere and it’s not necessarily going to line up with the connecting paper when it does. Not a big deal, just start in a corner that isn’t front and center when you walk in the room!

2️⃣. Use a laser level to ensure your first piece of wallpaper is hung perfectly straight. The first piece is the most important. It will affect the way the rest of the strips are hung. So make it easier on yourself and either draw a plumb line or use a laser level to successfully hang the first piece!

3️⃣. Use a thick nap roller to apply a very thick layer of glue to the wall. The more the merrier. This makes it super easy to move the wallpaper around on the wall while you’re trying to make sure it’s straight and in line with the previous piece’s pattern.

I will never understand people’s blatant disrega I will never understand people’s blatant disregard for common courtesy and decorum on the internet🫠 I wish I could say the criticism on my recent post didn’t bother me, but I’m only human and my knee jerk reaction was to feel a little down and even defensive.😅

Here’s the thing though, it’s true what they say- “All publicity is good publicity.” And if I have to withstand 100 harsh comments so that the algorithm will put my posts in front of 10 of my ‘people’ then it’s all worth it. So, thank you, Karens of the internet, for helping me to grow my account😘 #silverlining #bekind #beigeinterior #ilovebeige

P.S. If you think this room’s beige, you should see my butlers pantry😂

I love how these cute little cabinet feet add so much character and personality to our kitchen peninsula. The best part? They were fairly simple to make and attach. So I thought I’d make this little guide in case you wanted to make them too!

Tools and supplies you’ll need for this project:
• .75 in thick plywood
• jigsaw
• wood glue
• clamps
• electric sander
• paint that’s been color matched to your cabinets
• brad nailer + nails

Send this to a friend and let me know if you have any questions.. I’m here to help!🤗

It just blends🤌🏻 This was the first time I It just blends🤌🏻

This was the first time I painted a ceiling anything other than white and I think I’m pretty much obsessed.

This ceiling needed to be painted anyway. After the addition of the wall and remodel of the bookcase and all.. but when it came down to it, it just didn’t seem right to give it a fresh coat of white. I love the way your eye just keeps going across the room and is free to focus on the more important elements like the beautiful wallpaper, deep colors and different textures🤎

What’s your take?

I fell in love with this blue the moment I saw it on the wall. It’s not too warm and not too cool and satisfies that craving for color without being too *much*👏🏻

The 10 big projects we accomplished during our fir The 10 big projects we accomplished during our first year in our new (old) home 🛠️

Share this with someone who loves a good before and after🤗

1. WALL REMOVAL #1: Removed a non-structural wall that separated the living room and kitchen. It gave us a solid 4 more feet of usable space in our small living room and made a HUGE difference in the look and feel of this home🤩

2. CLOFFICE. My husband, who works from home, had a designated 3rd floor in our previous home and literally NOWHERE to call his own in this one - except for a corner of our room. Luckily we were able to swap an extra closet from a guest room to ours that was big enough for an office!

3. VENETIAN PLASTER WALL & MANTLE: The previous mantle was way too high and the brick wall made it impossible to hang our TV and hide its cord.. So I used Venetian Plaster to cover the brick and built a custom stone veneer mantle🔥

4. WALL & DOOR: Building a wall between these two living spaces downstairs made it so much more practical for the way our family wanted to utilize the space. Now our kids have a functional playroom where they can play, be loud and store aaalll the toys… and we can hear ourselves think😉

5. STORAGE BANQUETTE: I built a corner banquet that opens up for storage and serves as seating for games, coloring, crafting, etc.!🎉

6. DROPZONE: We desperately needed someplace to store shoes, backpacks, bags and jackets by the garage door where we come in and out of the house. Thankfully, there was a closet here that I could open up and turn into a little mudroom area🙌🏻

7. LAUNDRY ROOM GLOW-UP: The previous laundry room felt extremely makeshift and dysfunctional. It had no room to fold clothes, pipes were sticking out of the wall and it originally had ugly lenoleum flooring. It’s still small and cramped but makes MUCH more sense🫶🏼

8. BUTLERS PANTRY: I’ve always dreamt of having a butlers pantry and was beyond excited when I realized it would be doable here!

9. DISGUISED THE FRIDGE: We moved the fridge into the closet under the stairs to make more room for a large range and cabinets.

10. REMOVED STRUCTURAL WALL: I mean🤯
