2019 gift guides: the homemaker + entertainer.

GIFT GUIDES

Alright, friends – here it is. A gift guide for the homemaker in your life and the entertainer. I consider myself somewhat of both of these, so I was sure to include things I either have and love or would enjoy receiving as a gift! Let’s talk about the homemaker first!

Not shopping at the moment? Consider pinning the image below for later!

2019 GIFT GUIDES FOR THE HOMEMAKER AND ENTERTAINER | HOLIDAYS | AMANDA FONTENOT BLOG

Gift Ideas for the Homemaker.

  1. Simply Clean and/or The Complete Book of Clean
I personally own both of these books and, honestly, couldn’t recommend them more for someone who is looking to simplify their homemaking, learn new methods and even change their cleaning habits completely. Each book takes a different approach to cleaning and offers something unique so the homemaker in your life would love either or both!
  2. iRobot Roomba
I absolutely LOVE our Roomba and I think they’re 100% worth every single penny. The person you gift this to will enjoy having their life simplified and having to work the vacuum cleaner way less! We set ours to run at night before we go upstairs to bed and its so nice to wake up to a clean floor!
  3. Essential Oils
I see essential oils as a jack of all trades. Whether you just like something that smells good (like a candle) going, or are looking for a safe and natural way to clean the surfaces and air in your home, OR are even in search of natural and wholistic ways to improve skin, mood, immunity, etc. – you truly can’t beat oils!
  4. Dyson V8 Cordless Vacuum
I’ve been asking for one of these (the Dyson V8 Animal) for what seems like YEARS and, after finding this sale recently, G finally caved and said yes to purchasing! I have yet to hear a bad review or word spoken about these vacuums and cannot wait to receive ours. I’ll report back if I find it to be anything less than amazing so, for now, just take this homemaker’s very enthusiastic 2 thumbs up!
  5. Wooden Book Stand
Alright, if you’re looking for something that will weigh a little less heavy on your wallet, this book stand paired with one of the cleaning books above would be an amazing gift! I have a very similar stand that sits in our kitchen for cookbooks and my cleaning books while I’m doing my thing. I love the way it looks displayed on the counter!
  6. Echo Show
I actually put one of these on my wish list that I gave to my family. We currently have an echo dot in the kitchen and in our bedroom, which we love, but I thought this would be so nice to have in place of one of them while I’m cleaning, cooking or getting ready in the morning. If you have an Alexa device, you know how much they’re capable of and how handy they can be! The one in the kitchen keeps track of our grocery list, sets timers and so much more. The one in our bedroom plays music, tells us the weather, keeps track of our to-do list and, in general, just makes life easier! The Echo Show can do all of that plus make video calls, play videos and a ton more.. the more I talk about it, the more I really want it haha! And at a $50 price point, it’s pretty affordable!
  7. Heated Ceramic Mug
When I think of a homemaker, I think of someone (possibly a stay-at-home mom) who is wrangling household duties while, at the same time, trying to still do things for them – big or small. Something like this heated ceramic mug would make a great gift because if the homemaker you know is anything like me, their cup of coffee is usually cold by the time they get halfway through it. I used to keep a little electric warmer on my desk, but this is so much nicer – and will be much appreciated – I promise!
  8. Weekly Agenda Desk Pad
I ALWAYS have something like this on my desk and truly enjoy taking the time on a Sunday evening or early Monday morning to fill it out with the week’s to-do’s and plans. It really does help to keep me organized (and sane)!

What do you guys think? Anything on here you’d buy for your loved one?? With that, let’s talk about ‘the entertainer’.

Gift Ideas for the Entertainer.

  1. Settlers of Catan Board Game
G just purchased this and we played over the Thanksgiving holiday with my in-laws.. y’all – it’s so much fun. I highly recommend for a small gathering! Look up how to make it a drinking game too – not bad at all lol!
  2. Essential Oil-Based Home Set
If they’re entertaining, they’re going to need some pretty home essentials. I love this set because it’s customizable! You can pick the pieces (and therefore price point) that suits you – and them – the best. Just that soap and lotion set would be so pretty in their powder room!
  3. Ninja Blender
Never thought of giving ‘an entertainer’ a blender? Think again! There’s so much they can do – and drinks they can make – with a nice blender. This is the one we have and it’s currently on sale (TODAY only 12/4). We use ours to make things like margaritas and spiked smoothies when we have company over 🙂
  4. Ninja 4-in-1 Multi Cooker
This is the one I have (just in a different color) and it’s AMAZING. You can make so much in it. I thought of it for an entertainer because it can make their lives so much easier as a slow-cooker (prepping for a dinner party) or, like this year at Thanksgiving, I used ours as a warm holiday cider warmer. It quadruples as an oven, a steamer, slow cooker and even has stove capabilities! I truly love ours and use it so often.
  5. Wooden Cheese Board with Dome
Talk about classy – this thing is beautiful! There’s hardly a gathering that I throw that doesn’t include a cheese board, so I couldn’t recommend something like this enough!
  6. Wine Decanter and Set of Glasses
I had something similar linked at first, but this one is beautiful and way more affordable! I love that it comes as a set. I’ve been meaning to get something like this for us – I just love the look of the decanter and the fact that it actually serves a purpose. We’ve had several bottles of wine lately that we needed to ‘let breathe’ – so this would come in so handy!
  7. Mini Copper Cocotte Set
This is the cutest set I think I’ve come across! I’ve been on the lookout for something like this for myself actually. They’re great for serving individual soups (we love french onion soup), pot pies, desserts (crumbles!), etc.
  8. Punch Bowl and Glasses Set
I would 100% serve more punch drinks or just mass cocktails if I had a set like this (or just a punch bowl in general LOL)! This one is beautiful and a phenomenal price considering it comes with EIGHT glasses!

I mean.. I get it, to be honest.. I can only ho I mean..

I get it, to be honest..

I can only hope that people might look at my profile before/after commenting and realize this ain’t my first rodeo🤠

For the first project: we needed more storage. Period.

And the second: the paint was abnormally thick and wasn’t splattering. Believe me I DID test/check. I covered and protected the things I knew I couldn’t easily wipe clean (rug/play couch/etc) - it all turned out FINE)🫶🏼

I also feel like people saw the Timelapse’s and assumed I was going super fast and just splattering paint everywhere🤣 In reality I was going super slow!!!🤪

Little disclaimer - I’ve only ever used traditional wallpaper, but have yet to have any issues.. especially with these tips!👇🏼

3 Tips for wallpaper success:

1️⃣. Start in the most inconspicuous corner of the room. Your wallpaper has to end somewhere and it’s not necessarily going to line up with the connecting paper when it does. Not a big deal, just start in a corner that isn’t front and center when you walk in the room!

2️⃣. Use a laser level to ensure your first piece of wallpaper is hung perfectly straight. The first piece is the most important. It will affect the way the rest of the strips are hung. So make it easier on yourself and either draw a plumb line or use a laser level to successfully hang the first piece!

3️⃣. Use a thick nap roller to apply a very thick layer of glue to the wall. The more the merrier. This makes it super easy to move the wallpaper around on the wall while you’re trying to make sure it’s straight and in line with the previous piece’s pattern.

I will never understand people’s blatant disrega I will never understand people’s blatant disregard for common courtesy and decorum on the internet🫠 I wish I could say the criticism on my recent post didn’t bother me, but I’m only human and my knee jerk reaction was to feel a little down and even defensive.😅

Here’s the thing though, it’s true what they say- “All publicity is good publicity.” And if I have to withstand 100 harsh comments so that the algorithm will put my posts in front of 10 of my ‘people’ then it’s all worth it. So, thank you, Karens of the internet, for helping me to grow my account😘 #silverlining #bekind #beigeinterior #ilovebeige

P.S. If you think this room’s beige, you should see my butlers pantry😂

I love how these cute little cabinet feet add so much character and personality to our kitchen peninsula. The best part? They were fairly simple to make and attach. So I thought I’d make this little guide in case you wanted to make them too!

Tools and supplies you’ll need for this project:
• .75 in thick plywood
• jigsaw
• wood glue
• clamps
• electric sander
• paint that’s been color matched to your cabinets
• brad nailer + nails

Send this to a friend and let me know if you have any questions.. I’m here to help!🤗

It just blends🤌🏻 This was the first time I It just blends🤌🏻

This was the first time I painted a ceiling anything other than white and I think I’m pretty much obsessed.

This ceiling needed to be painted anyway. After the addition of the wall and remodel of the bookcase and all.. but when it came down to it, it just didn’t seem right to give it a fresh coat of white. I love the way your eye just keeps going across the room and is free to focus on the more important elements like the beautiful wallpaper, deep colors and different textures🤎

What’s your take?

I fell in love with this blue the moment I saw it on the wall. It’s not too warm and not too cool and satisfies that craving for color without being too *much*👏🏻

The 10 big projects we accomplished during our fir The 10 big projects we accomplished during our first year in our new (old) home 🛠️

Share this with someone who loves a good before and after🤗

1. WALL REMOVAL #1: Removed a non-structural wall that separated the living room and kitchen. It gave us a solid 4 more feet of usable space in our small living room and made a HUGE difference in the look and feel of this home🤩

2. CLOFFICE. My husband, who works from home, had a designated 3rd floor in our previous home and literally NOWHERE to call his own in this one - except for a corner of our room. Luckily we were able to swap an extra closet from a guest room to ours that was big enough for an office!

3. VENETIAN PLASTER WALL & MANTLE: The previous mantle was way too high and the brick wall made it impossible to hang our TV and hide its cord.. So I used Venetian Plaster to cover the brick and built a custom stone veneer mantle🔥

4. WALL & DOOR: Building a wall between these two living spaces downstairs made it so much more practical for the way our family wanted to utilize the space. Now our kids have a functional playroom where they can play, be loud and store aaalll the toys… and we can hear ourselves think😉

5. STORAGE BANQUETTE: I built a corner banquet that opens up for storage and serves as seating for games, coloring, crafting, etc.!🎉

6. DROPZONE: We desperately needed someplace to store shoes, backpacks, bags and jackets by the garage door where we come in and out of the house. Thankfully, there was a closet here that I could open up and turn into a little mudroom area🙌🏻

7. LAUNDRY ROOM GLOW-UP: The previous laundry room felt extremely makeshift and dysfunctional. It had no room to fold clothes, pipes were sticking out of the wall and it originally had ugly lenoleum flooring. It’s still small and cramped but makes MUCH more sense🫶🏼

8. BUTLERS PANTRY: I’ve always dreamt of having a butlers pantry and was beyond excited when I realized it would be doable here!

9. DISGUISED THE FRIDGE: We moved the fridge into the closet under the stairs to make more room for a large range and cabinets.

10. REMOVED STRUCTURAL WALL: I mean🤯
