Wall sconces are a great wall filler when you have an empty space that you don’t know what to do with. Additionally, a sconce can play a pretty functional and practical role – especially when you have a surface like a nightstand or end table with limited space. I’ve used them in our previous home for both reasons and I’m getting ready to do the same in this one.
Sconces I’ve used in the Past.
During our previous kitchen remodel, I wanted an option for lighting that was more dim and low key than the bright overhead can lines that we had.. mood lighting if you will. So these gold brushed wall scones were a great, affordable lighting option.
I remember coming downstairs from putting the kids to bed and turning these on once the kitchen was closed and cleaned for the night. They offered just the right amount of light in the shared kitchen/living room space while G and I watched a show or sat with our computers and did some work. Good times 🙂
The other example of a good time to use wall sconces is when you have a space on the wall that you’re not sure what to do with. In our previous home, this was the case in our dining room. I had installed new base cabinet built-ins with hutches that sat on top. In the space between the uppers, I had hung one of my favorite framed prints which, I thought, would be large enough to fill the space. It turned out that it wasn’t and I ended up needing something to balance the area visually. That’s when I decided on this pair of battery operated wall sconces. They were the right choice for the area in shape and size and especially for the fact that I wouldn’t have to cut into my newly finished shiplap wall to hardwire anything in.
