halfway there.
This week’s bumpdate is a special one. It marks the halfway point in our pregnancy!
I cannot believe more than three months have gone by since we’ve learned this little boy exists. Have I told you all the story of how I found out?
It was actually on Mother’s Day. G was out of town for a bachelor party and my mom and little brother were visiting for the holiday. Earlier in the week, I had noticed that I was late but, as it wasn’t by much more than a couple of days and I was having pre-menstrual symptoms, I let the thought pass. It wasn’t until I was sitting at brunch with my family, talking to my mom about the future and what was on the horizon for G and I, that the thought surfaced again. I was driving us all home and made up an excuse to stop into the drugstore to get a pregnancy test. When we got home, I snuck upstairs to take it.
the waiting game.
As I waited for the test to do its thing, I sat on the edge of our bathtub with my head bowed and my eyes closed. As I sat there, I prayed that, if this was God’s timing, that G and I would seek Him throughout our journey in becoming parents. I prayed about what it would be like to become a mother and just what type of mother I’d become. I prayed for our marriage. And, lastly, I prayed for my heart if the test was negative because, amidst the process of purchasing, taking and waiting for a pregnancy test to give its response, there’d been so much that had happened internally that I’m not really sure if I can adequately explain it.
When I opened my eyes and peered over at the counter where the test lay, I burst into the most uncontrollable, apprehensive and joyful tears. Ever since then, it’s been the sweetest most exciting adventure that’s brought me closer to God, closer to G and closer to family and friends. Babies are the most wonderful gift and I’m so, so grateful to be walking this walk.
