let me explain.
Okay, so before you judge me too harshly on the ‘before’ of this linen closet, let me just explain its origins. We moved in at the end of February and were still knee deep in renovations. So, this closet – among other places – was one area that just got neglected for a long time. I needed the boxes that contained all the guest/spare linens to be out of the way so unpacked everything but didn’t take the time to sort or go through them at all – just set them willy nilly on these shelves. The broken shelf was hanging on by a thread when we moved in and finally decided to collapse a few weeks ago.
I know what you’re thinking – yikes.. but hey, messy ‘before’s’ make for better ‘afters’ right?! (if you agree with that just wait till you see our pantry?)
the process.
Anyway, this was actually a pretty fun project for me. I started out by making a list of what all I wanted to keep in this closet:
- Guest linens
- Spare pillows
- Baby linens
- Guest / Spare Towels
- Toilet Paper
- First Aid
- Beach Towels
Then I got to work. Here’s what I did.
First, I took everything out of the closet and fixed the bottom shelf. After that I sorted through all of our crap and got rid of the stuff we didn’t need.. which was a lot. Then, based on what we had left and the size of the space, I made a list of the type of baskets I wanted and headed to TJ Maxx & Home Goods. It was an easy task to find everything I needed there (and then some.. as always?).
Once I got home, the fun commenced: putting the closet all back together. If you’re curious, here’s what everything is:
- Top left: spare pillows
- Top right: spray bottles with all my natural cleaners
- Second shelf left: baby linens
- Second shelf right: spare towels
- Third shelf left: guest towels
- Third shelf right: guest hand towels and wash cloths
- Fourth shelf left: first aid and medicines
- Fourth shelf right: toilet paper
- Bottom hamper: beach towels
- Bottom basket: spare bedding (duvet covers, sheets, pillow cases)
similar products & look-a-likes.
watch it all go down.
I was truly amazed at the transformation in this linen closet. It went from a corner in the upstairs hallway that I loathed and always kept hidden, to a closet I stop and stare at whenever I walk by?
Here’s a quick little video of the process and how I got from point A to point B. Sorry about the portrait mode, I originally made it for my Instagram TV channel, but decided why not put it on here and YouTube as well. Enjoy!
