I wanted to write a quick dedicated post for one of my most frequently asked questions as of late: “Where is your kitchen backsplash from?”
Alexander James Shop.
We purchased our tile through Alexander James Shop and couldn’t be happier with the way our kitchen backsplash project turned out. We used the Handcraft White ceramic tile, which is glossy and multi-dimensional and just beautiful! This backsplash tile truly makes an incredible statement while still staying calm and neutral – if you’re like me and that’s your thing!
Each case of tile contains 4-6 tonal variations in tile color, which creates a gorgeous yet subtle mosaic of whites. This has been such a welcome change to the one-dimensional, stark white subway tile that the previous owners had installed. These tiles also features a slight texture that helps to add a ton of interest to our kitchen walls.
Installation.
I decided to install our ceramic backsplash tile all the way up to the ceiling and I can’t recommend this design decision enough. Countertop to ceiling kitchen backsplash makes a huge statement and definitely made our kitchen feel much bigger. Just check out this before and after:
As far as thinset, I used this ceramic tile mortar in the color white since I knew we wanted a light colored grout. I learned the hard way during my first ever tiling project that, if you’re using a light color grout, you should use a light mortar. Since laying tile can get a little messy, it’s easier to match light grouts with light mortars in case some shows through. Same with dark grouts and dark mortars. Trust me, it’ll save you a lot of headache!
For grout, I used this unsanded version in the color Frost. I love the way the light gray grout compliments and blends in with the colors of the backsplash. It’s the same color grout we used for the tile in our DIY guest bathroom.
As you can see from the above photo, grout really makes a big difference in the way your tile looks, so choosing the right color is super important!
