My baby is one year old! Even as I type the words, my eyes well up with tears and I have the sweetest flashbacks of this past year. From my 16 hour labor to extra nights in the hospital due to his jaundice, to bringing him home in the snow and every single sweet milestone and memory thereafter. Year one with our Fischer Scot has been a journey I never want to forget.

I plan to flesh out a few posts in the coming month or two about my first year of motherhood and some things I’ve learned, wish I’d known earlier and the like. But for now I just want to share a few photos of Fischer’s precious little birthday party that we had for him this past Saturday. I also promise to share how I made his balloon garland this week, so stay tuned!

For the food table, I just went with simple finger foods: Hawaiian roll ham sliders, mini meatballs from Trader Joe’s, caramel apple dip and chips and salsa! I made Fischer his own smash cake (which was made with Greek yogurt frosting and oat flour) and for the adults I made a triple layer version of Southern Living’s hummingbird cake! Hummingbird is my favorite 🙂 For drinks, G made his famous margaritas and I set out a nice big pitcher of ice water.

Above the food table, I clipped a photo from each of Fischer’s monthly update photos. It was so cool to have them all up next to each other – you can really see how much he’s grown and change from month to month!

As for other decorations, I tried to keep it fairly simple. Other than the balloon garland and streamer background for his cake smash photos, we just had a couple of big 34″ balloons and a gold foil 1 balloon to tie together the two areas in the kitchen where we were hanging out.

As for a party theme – we didn’t have one. I was searching and searching for ideas, but I couldn’t think of or find anything that I really loved – and that’s totally okay with me. I decided instead to just keep it a neutral first birthday and picked white, gold and navy blue as colors that I tied into Fischer’s attire, the cake, dishes and balloons.

It was a simple little party with some of our close friends and we had the best time celebrating our little man!
