I thought it was about time I started sharing some before and after’s of the house with you guys! I don’t have ALL the ‘before’ photos that I would like for different areas of the house, but I do have some, and I think the kitchen is a great place to start.

The story of our home purchase.

When we first toured this home, I fell in love with so much about it. From its curb appeal, to the glass-enclosed master shower, to the 2nd floor living area and DEFINITELY the kitchen. We actually left this house with our realtor and we told her we LOVED it, but it was just a bit too far out of our price range. So, we put it out of our minds. And then maybe a week and a half or two weeks later, we received a text from our realtor that the seller wanted to know “what it would take to get this done.” Y’all.. it was like God chose this house for us because the next thing we knew we were signing an offer agreement and were under contract.

How we renovated our kitchen.

Now, as much as we loved this house, there were definitely certain things we wanted to change in order to truly make this house our home. One of them was to update the kitchen. The backsplash and cabinets/counters were great, but appliances, the light fixtures and popcorn ceiling had to go. We also ended up adding a second island! Shout out to our awesome friend, David, for helping us late into the night for weeks rerouting electrical, scraping popcorn texture, cutting holes in our drywall and painting.. a lot. That’s what it took to get this kitchen in ship shape but it was sooo worth it!

Here’s a list of everything we did to this room:

New stainless steel appliances
Removed light fixtures.
Replaced the main incandescent light with recessed lighting.
Rerouted the one breakfast nook light to allow for two pendant lights that would be centered above the new island.
Scraped the popcorn ceiling.
Patched holes and painted the ceiling.
Painted the walls.
Added second island and had new countertop installed.
Replaced outlets.
Replaced light switches.

Aaaand… I think that’s it. Phew. It may not sound like a lot.. but.. it was a LOT. It was so much, in fact that I remember standing in our mess of a kitchen while we were still in the middle of everything taking a quick break to scarf down Chinese food at 8:30 at night. It was then that I looked at G and said “Happy Anniversary!” – and that was the first time either of us had thought about our 5th wedding anniversary.. probably ever LOL.

Y’all, home renovations are no joke. They will test your patience and test your marriage (HA) but it was so special to get to do it all ourselves (minus the two story entryway) and to reap the benefits and reward of the finished product!

Have you guys done any renovating before? Did it go smoothly or were there bumps in the road? I’d love to hear!
