I’ve shared my home office reveal on here with you guys already, but what I haven’t said is that I’ve been in search for the perfect office chair for a while now. When I was first choosing pieces for my office, I kept going back and forth on chairs until I finally said, forget it – I’ll choose something later on. So, for the past 7 or 8 months I’ve been using one of our old Tolix chairs, which has worked just fine, it’s just not the comfort level or wow factor that I have been envisioning in the space.

Fast forward to just this past week when I made the discovery that, maybe – just maybe – I had the perfect desk chair sitting in my office the entire time! Last week, I ordered a clothing rack (this one) to put in my office so that I could hang up different try-on items, props and things I use for the style aspect of my blog in a nice neat area rather than leaving things lying about or in boxes all the time. Since the rack took up the corner of my office where my accent chair sat, I had to find it a new home.

I moved that dang chair around the living room and to different places in the dining room before the thought finally occurred to me – what if I used it at my desk?! Upon placing it there I instantly fell in love. It provides a bit of that dramatic appeal that I was looking for, while being comfortable, stylish and of course functional. The one drawback is that it’s not on wheels. However, thanks to my office rug – yes, the one I RAVE about constantly – it’s nothing but a thang! Why? Because 1. The bottom of the chair doesn’t catch on anything – the legs have sort of a slippery bottom and 2. The low pile and softness of this rug creates zero interference with movement. Truth be told, I pretty much leave it in one spot – tilted in and pulled out a bit so that I can get in and out of it – and hardly ever move it.

Love at first sit.

I love working in this comfy accent chair. It’s spacious enough for my favorite (non-ergonomical) sitting positions – LOL (I like to sit crisscross applesauce or some variation of having my legs up under me), it’s well cushioned and the back is close enough and tall enough for me to lean back and relax in between thoughts or while taking breaks. I also love that it can sit both me and either Fischer or our cat – haha – whom are both frequent visitors while I’m trying to get some work done here and there.

I was just so happy with the way this chair came to life behind my desk that I thought I’d see if I couldn’t help any of you achieve the same contentment with your work setup. I think your desk chair has the opportunity to really make or break your workspace and home office in general – so it’s a really key piece! That in mind, I’ve pulled together 12 office chair options under $275. If that price point seems a little steep – don’t worry, many of these are well below that! But also keep in mind that an office chair is meant to be comfortable, last years and adds so much in terms of productivity, aesthetic and value to your space!

A few things to think about..

Now, really quick – there are a few things to think about before you choose to invest in a desk chair. They are:

  1. Sitting height. This is a big one for me. I like to sit pretty much as high as possible, but obviously still have room to cross my legs if I want to. When you’re choosing a chair, (especially ones that don’t adjust up and down), make sure you check the measurements in the product description and compare them to your ideal height in relation to your desk.
  2. Movement and wheels. This is just something to think about. It wasn’t a requirement to me for my desk chair to be able to roll around. In fact, I much prefer the ‘accent chair’ look to the ‘task chair’ look – but be sure to ask yourself whether movement in a chair is important to you!
  3. Arms. Orginally, when I was first on the hunt for a chair, I thought nice sturdy arms were going to be a must. I just recall using them a lot when I worked in an office. I liked leaning over on them to think or just rest my arms on them during phone calls, etc.

My picks.

Alright, now that we have everything out of the way, let’s get to my office chair finds! Again, they’re all under $275 (many are way under) and I’ve included several versions of different styles – all of them were ones I had considered at one point or another putting in my office!

Here are my 12 picks (click any item in the collage to shop):
