In an effort to avoid buying a second crib, we are slowly-but-surely initiating the transition of Fischer sleeping in a regular bed. For the past two weeks or so, we’ve had a full size mattress hanging out in his room to give him some familiarity and begin the process. So far, I think he’s far from being ready to sleep in it overnight, but we’re encouraged by how much he likes to hang out on it!

Although I just put his new headboard and bedding up yesterday, we still have a ways to go, so I thought I’d share my design with you during the process. I’ll share the big reveal later on down the road once Fischer is officially transitioned and we have the crib out of there!

For now, here’s the design plan:

Room Plan and Concepts

Fischer’s nursery has always been sort of a down-played nautical theme, which I love, so I wanted to keep that going with his new room. The square IKEA shelf and baskets are currently in his closet being used as storage, so I plan to bring that out for him to use as a nightstand. His current dresser/changing table is the larger Hemnes dresser from IKEA (here’s a look-a-like) but it’s getting moved to the nursery, so we’re planning on just getting him the smaller version of the same one. I think it fits well with his decor and I like the way these dressers are made/the way they look! We can even keep using it as a changing table until our little guy is potty trained.

My favorite item in this design is perhaps the headboard. It was my initial inspiration when I found it. Plus, since Fischer already has several rattan/wicker pieces in his room currently, so I thought the texture and aesthetic of it couldn’t be any more perfect!

A reading corner is also in the plans for this room. This little wingback chair is child-size and so cute! The playroom where most of his books live is just outside his bedroom, but I like the idea of him having a spot to sit down and read if he wants to spend time in his room.

The little wicker basket you see in the right-hand corner is his hamper – which is currently in there. He’s had it since we first put together his nursery and I love it! I also came across this affordable blue rug and fell in love! However, if we don’t use the blue nursery design from the other day (click here to read that post), then I’m contemplating using this blue textured rug instead – because I think I love it even more.
