2020 ended up being the year of house projects for us and I’m not mad about it one bit! We got a slow start after finding out I was pregnant in mid January, but after the difficulties of the first trimester subsided, the nesting bug kicked in and I was off to the races! Here’s a list of all of the house projects we completed this year:

  1. Laid sod in backyard
  2. Laundry room update: added cabinets, built shelf, painted window
  3. Kitchen open shelves
  4. Living room windows: added trim and painted black (5 windows)
  5. Kitchen faucet and window update
  6. Dining room chair rail removal
  7. Dining room accent wall
  8. Dining room window: added trim and painted black
  9. Office window
  10. Nursery window
  11. Nursery accent wall

Laid sod.

This was the very first project we undertook this year – and it was a big one. We had laid sod at our previous house, so we knew the process and what to do. G spent weeks getting the ground ready little by little and making sure our drainage systems were in place. Then, we ordered three pallets of sod from a nearby farm and got to work! To our delight, the sod took and we now have a beautiful backyard for the boys and dogs to run around in.

AFTER

I couldn’t find photos I took this summer so this is winter grass 😉 Just imagine it lush and green!

laundry room update.

So, I had made over this room after we first moved in. The first update was ok, but I ventured out of my comfort zone by painting it green and decided over the next year that I really disliked it lol! Not only that, but we were in need of some more storage in there. So, this summer I decided to act on an idea I had been turning over in my head: take down two cabinets in our kitchen and put them in the laundry room! I’ll show you what we did to replace the cabinets in the kitchen next, but first let’s check out this before and after in the laundry room.

I then added a little shelf to hide the utility box behind the washer:

kitchen open shelves.

This is the project that happened pretty much simultaneously with the laundry room update. We pulled down two kitchen cabinets to use in the laundry room and replaced them with open shelving. It made our kitchen seem a little bigger and brighter since we weren’t blocking light from the kitchen window and allowed space for decor!

kitchen window and faucet.

Around the time we were updating our kitchen walls, I was contacted by Pfister Faucets about a partnership involving their Ladera kitchen faucet. So, I thought, while we’re updating that why not update the window too!

living room windows.

This is another great before and after: our living room windows! We added trim, removed the blinds, spray painted them black and added electrical tape over the white window panes. If you’d like to see the whole process, I documented it in my Instagram highlights – click here to watch!

dining room.

We updated a few things in the dining room starting with taking down the chair rail that went around the entire room. Then, I added an accent wall and finally, updated the window by adding trim and spray painting the window itself black!

nursery.

This room started the year as our guest room. After finding out we were pregnant, we cleared out our second spare room and moved the guest room furniture into that room. Then, I got to work making it into the room we brought our sweet baby boy home to! I started with trimming, painting and adding new woven shades to the window. This was actually the first window I did in the house and the one that sparked the urge to do the rest of the house. The accent wall came next and was a simplified version of the one I had done in the dining room previously. I love the way they both turned out and am so proud of the nursery this room turned into!

And that’s it! So, I’m curious – which project is your favorite?!
