Well, today’s the day! Yesterday, I wrapped up our kitchen project by sharing the final reveal here. Today, we start on the dining room! I wanted to share my plans for the dining room here to give you an idea of what is to come.. and it’s going to be a good one!

Dining room design.

This room is getting a serious face lift. I’m touching everything from the floors up, including ripping out the accent wall and I sold our dining room table and chairs so that we can start fresh! Here’s my design board for the space:

Let me walk you through my plans.

Dining room feature wall.

The current feature wall was one that I built while pregnant with Beckham in 2020! I loved it and was proud of it, but I really want to add some storage in this room so it has to go. We ordered some Billy Bookcases from IKEA and I’m going to try my best to make them look like they’re built into the wall. I chose these because they’re nice and shallow and will offer more storage without taking up a lot of walkway space around the table.

I also ordered some glass doors from IKEA and plan to build two hutches for either end that will somewhat resemble the photos in my design board. Between those, I’ll add a couple of open shelves and VOILA – we’ll have LOTS of dining room storage. I plan to keep table linens, extra serving dishes, wine glasses and then everything from G’s liquor cabinet that used to be in the kitchen where the coffee bar now is.

Dining room furniture.

I haven’t decided 100% on the chairs yet, but I REALLY like these that I found from Target at a pretty affordable price. They’re nice and simple and the backs don’t bow out like our last dining chairs, so they’ll allow for more room to move around in the room.

For the table, the one in my design board is from Pottery Barn, but I found a VERY similar one one Facebook Marketplace for just $75!! It will need to be refinished to make it look more similar to the one from PB, but I’m up for that if it saves me $$$ 🙂

Dining room decor.

As for decor, I’m planning on putting up a simple gallery wall using my favorite frames and I plan to fill them with black and white family photos (I think). Then, for the rug, this is the one I’ve had my eye on for a while now. I love that it’s dark and moody so it should be much easier to keep clean than the current one. I also plan to change out the light to something a little more modern. I’m currently trying to decide between this pendant light and this one. Lights are hard for me, though, so it may be the last thing I order and install after I see the room come together 😉

Floors.

Last but not least – and, actually, it’ll be the first thing that changes – we’re installing new floors! We purchased a big pallet full of this LVP from Floor & Decor and we plan to replace at least the entire downstairs, upstairs hallway and playroom! But for now we’ll be starting with the dining room 🙂 I’m so excited about this update. It’s going to be a massive undertaking but we’ll take it room by room and I know it’s going to be so worth it in the end! The floors were the first thing G and I knew we wanted to change before we even bought this house, so it’s so exciting to be starting on it 3.5 years later!
