Are y’all ready for the quickest, easiest DIY of your life?!
First, let me start at the beginning. This DIY came to be because, while I was designing the elements for our new dining room, I fell in love with this fluted shade pendant light. I wanted something that was fun but traditional with a touch of modern – something that would make a quaint statement in the room. I loved this style of light to be used above a dining room as a chandelier. However, as you can imagine, what I didn’t love was the price.
Then, low and behold, @withsarale, whom I love following ended up sharing this DIY hack on her stories and I was instantly sold! Let me show you the exact products I used and explain how I did it.
How to DIY a pleated shade pendant light.
First things first, you’ll want to purchase your materials. I went with the exact pleated shade that Sara shared on her stories – from Amazon. I LOVE this shade and its detailing. It’s sturdier than I was expecting and of great quality! One thing you’ll want to note about this shade, though, is that it’s THICK. Why does that matter? Because it doesn’t let a ton of light shine through.
We noticed this right away, but I think it’s mainly because the previous chandelier we had in the room had some 6 separate bulbs in it and gave off a TON of bright light (a little too much for a dining room in my opinion). For something like an intimate dining room setting, this pleated shade is perfect, but if you’re a bright lights type of person you may want to rethink this!
Then, I found this super simple and affordable rod pendant light at Home Depot. I love that you can adjust the length of the rod and it was very easy to put together and install. All you have to do is swap the caged fixture with your new pleated shade and VOILA – really, it’s that simple. I think this took us maybe 20-30 mins from beginning to the end of install and I’m so in love with the way that it turned out!
I just love the look of this new chandelier of ours so much! What do you think?!
