Those of you who have been around for a while will have noticed that Fischer’s nursery here in our new house is not that much different than the one I had put together for him in our last house (click here to see the original neutral nursery reveal). But this post isn’t really about ‘revealing’ his nursery – it’s more just to show you just how far this room has come from where we started.
To paint the best picture possible for you, I feel like I need to start from the beginning.
The backstory.
When we bought this house, we knew we had a LOT of work we needed to do. We hated the interior color on the walls (the same color was painted throughout) and there were two major things wrong with the ceilings. First, there were water spots (evidence of previous water damage) on the ceiling in SEVERAL of the rooms downstairs. Second, the entire house had popcorn ceiling – which was a huge hurdle in the overall aesthetic we were going for. We decided very early on that the whole place would be scraped and painted and that we’d try to get it all done before we moved in. Since we still needed to sell our home when we put this one under contract, we figured we had plenty of time. However, our previous house literally sold in two days and it put us on a serious time crunch to get our projects done before having to move in!
Fischer’s room was first priority, since I wanted nothing more than for him to be able to move in with as little disruption to his routine as possible. If you’re a mom – you get it – am i right? So that’s where we started in here. His popcorn ceiling texture was scraped, sanded down, mudded, primed and painted over (I put a video together of our popcorn ceiling removal process here if you’d like to see). The next step was to paint the walls and replace his generic ceiling light with a ceiling fan.
Note: all of the interior walls of our home (except our laundry room) are painted Classic Gray by Benjamin Moore.
Before + During.
The photo below is of G and our good friend, David, working on scraping Fischer’s ceiling!
Since the nursery was one of the first rooms we did, the learning curve was long and the process was pretty slow. But we eventually had it all fixed up and painted!
Is it just me, or do these photos side by side sort of blow you away?!
It’s crazy to look back on this next set of photos because they were taken after Fischer’s first night in his new room and all of this went down before he learned to walk! So, here he is crawling around in his half-furnished, nowhere near put together room this past March.
Note: I’ll link Fischer’s furniture and decor sources at the bottom of this post!
After.
Alright, and here are the final photos of what it looks like now. It’s so crazy to me how far this room (and whole house) has come in a matter of months!
What do you guys think? I guess you don’t quite get the full effect without being able to see/experience the actual popcorn ceiling – but hopefully this post was a fun look into the stage Fischer’s nursery went through to get to where it is today!
